AI Dog Training
How often in a day do we go to our phone or computer with a question and find the answer through Google or some other search engine? The answer for me is a lot. I am a researcher by nature so I am always looking for answers.
I am a dog trainer and am constantly researching the field. There are so many different points of view on dog training even with all the scientific facts available.
I don't, however, consult AI when I am in need of dog training advice or clarification. I contact other dog trainers that I trust and respect.
AI can scan thousands of dog trainers websites and find information for you. How to teach a dog to sit, down or come. The AI compiles your answer with information it has scraped together that reads similar to it. You may get an answer that helps or you may get an answer that sends you into a rabbit hole spin. If your question is something more complex like why does my dog lunge and bark at every dog on the other side of the road? AI will give you answers for you to choose from but does AI give you the right answer that can address the root problem of why the dog is experiencing such outbursts? AI is known to have percentages of incorrect responses because it simply scans websites for key words in your question. The websites can be old, outdated or new and it compiles what it finds, right or wrong.
AI may offer you a quick fix at the moment but is AI helping you to determine why your dog is behaving the way they are? Contrary to popular belief the why of behaviour is very important. Only a person who has laid eyes on your dog\puppy can help you decipher why a dog is offering inappropriate or bad behaviours. Some dogs are anxious because their owners aren’t leaders, some are anxious because they have been through unseen traumatic experiences and some are anxious because of lack of socialization. How to fix any one of these is not as easy as asking Google, Siri or Alexa.
If you are experiencing difficulties, seeing bad behaviours or embarrassed by the way your dog reacts to the world, AI definitely does not have the answers you need. A dog trainer or dog behaviourist is going to be the one to help you identify the root problem and help create a program that is suitable for you and your dog to get back on track.
