How To Pick a Puppy or Rescue That is Right for You
So you are looking to adopt a new member of the family. What is the best breed, mix of breeds or rescue for you?
The short answer is, the one that you or your family can satiate their inbred needs without problems or worry.
All dogs in this lifetime were bred in a previous lifetime with a point and purpose. You have your shepherds, guardians, haulers, hunters, retrievers, ratters, terriers, diggers and other pest controllers. I may not have named them all but you get the point, they had jobs.
These jobs were the dogs fun, exercise and treats. Sleep was only taken when the day's duties were done.
Some dog breeds in our world are 2000 years old (Cane Corso) , some are only 400 years old (Great Dane). That’s a long time of doing the same thing and each litter being bred to do their job better and better.
Research your preferred pups breed(s). I am all for rescuing dogs, my first dog was a rescue and so was my third dog. They were 2 of the best dogs on the planet. With google in the palm of our hands constantly you can simply find out what the breeds in your new rescue will need. Find out and see what is available in your neighbourhood to help your pup exercise their mind as well as their body. Walks around the block get us out, they are an activity we enjoy, not very often are they enough physical exercise for the pups.
If you are getting a puppy from an accredited breeder, ask the breeder what you need to do to have your new pup live their best life. Most accredited breeders have lists of people and places they can suggest in their area. It just means you need to know if the businesses are in your area as well.
Knowing all this before you pick a pup helps you spend less on rehabilitation training and more on the fun and enrichment your dog loves.
