Dog Enrichment Activities

Dogs need more than just puzzles, balls and the walk around the block. They need training and challenges to keep them from becoming bored, biters, fearful or eating\chewing everything in your home. Everything I mentioned can become very expensive. Not only to replace but as trips to the vet for unneeded medication or surgeries to remove said socks from blocking their colons.

Here is a list of activity you could consider adding to your pups weekly schedule to help satiate their breed’s needs
Herding - some areas offer the ability for you and your dog to learn the fine art of herding. For your various herding dogs

Dock Diving - This is an amazing activity to get your dog into. They have to retrieve a stick from its tether above a pool of water. For your water lovers and retrievers.
Scent work - Teach your dog to find different smells or items anywhere. Once you have the basics down you can do this one in your own backyard. For your hounds and almost any other breed. A puppy's nose works before their eyes and ears!!!
Agility - Working on stance, jumps, angles and height agility is for almost every active breed. Various breeds, even the tiniest of dogs enjoy the mental work of agility.
Bite work - this is where dogs are learning to bite the dummy. Whether it's an arm, leg or torso the dog learns to release energy into a bite. Fun for lots of breeds.
Shutzhund- Tracking: The dog smells the ground to find a trail left by a person.
Obedience: The dog does commands like heeling, sitting, and jumping over hurdles while ignoring distractions like gunshots. Protection:The dog finds a hidden "helper" and guards them. Great for your High energy working breeds.
Digging - If you have a ratter, terrier or pest controller and even a husky give them somewhere on your property to dig! You can fill it in everyday and they will thank-you everyday by being allowed to digit up again.
